Fred Johnson was born and raised in Superior, Wisconsin on May 27, 1921. During WWII, he was an Army Medic and was in many major invasions in the SW Pacific and the Philippines. He was awarded three Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart for his bravery. Returning to Superior after the war, he became a policeman and later was elected Sheriff of Douglas County Wisconsin where he served for 20 years before retiring.
