The Douglas County Sheriff's Office, along with the Superior Police Department and the Superior Fire Department, will be hosting a free Child Car Seat Check-Up event on Thursday, July 17th from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM. The check-up event will be held at the Superior Fire Department Headquarters located at 3326 Tower Ave in Superior.
Motor Vehicle crashes are still the leading cause of death and series injury to children in the United States. Even though most parents are using child safety seats, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimates that 8 out of 10 child safety seats are being used incorrectly.
A Deputy Sheriff, two Superior Police Officers, and five Superior Firefighters, along with other area professionals are attending an intensive three day training to be able to educate parents and child caregivers in the proper selection and installation of child safety seats. The training will culminate with the car seat check up event mentioned above.
This is a free service being offered to the public. Parents, Grandparents, and anyone who has the responsibility of transporting children are welcome to attend this event.
